John 16:30-31-“By this we believe, Jesus answered, Do ye now believe?”

SENSE OF DUTY
I let my sense of duty get in God’s Way today.
Creating competition, building MY importance along the way.
I let MY sense of importance push me and mine to the fore.
MY opinions and MY arguments were given focus even more.
But as I looked around me, wondering where obedience had gone,
MY proud agenda of duty usurped the place where God belonged.
Duty is always important. Jesus values our faithfulness alone.
But when the Gospel is kept in focus, He’ll anoint all spiritual tone.
Lord, forgive my pride in a sense of duty. Forgive the controlling I’ve embraced.
When Duty robbed my ministry, I can imagine the pain on Your face!

JOURNAL JOTTINGS: Jesus wanted to know if the disciples knew what they believed. It is easier to “Do” than to “BE”. Journal how a sense of duty could rob your joy. Ministry can be mundane but entirely joy-filled. What makes the difference?
Compare a SENSE OF DUTY to SERVANTHOOD. Journal how beliefs might affect goals, ambition and creativity in ministry.
Dear Lord, Keep me focused on Your teachings so that my serving will line up with Your Will. Thank You for the strong work ethic in me. Help me to surrender my abilities so that they are released for Your anointing for service. Help me to remember that as Your follower, I came not to be served but to serve. Help me to use my time wisely during this window of opportunity. Forgive me for the times I’ve run ahead of Your plans. May my service NEVER become more important than the One whom I serve? In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
