VISITATION

Children from broken homes often wait with hopeful anticipation and the promised visitation or reunion never takes place. This is written with loving concern for the damage done to those tender lives. God help the children.

 MOMMY NEVER CAME

I was waiting by the window, my coat and hat were ready too.

I’d only slept a short time because excitement was running through.

Mommy told me she was coming, my babysitter helped me with my hair.

My teeth were brushed and shining, my backpack was by the chair.

Mommy said that we’d go shopping. She said she’d buy me pretty clothes.

My sneakers needed replacing. There is a big  hole  by my  toe.

The clock was ticking onward. Mom said she’d come before noon.

My babysitter was pacing. She had plans that time would ruin.

I told my sitter to go ahead. I knew how to lock the door.

My babysitter hesitated. I told her I had waited for Mom before.

Suddenly the phone was ringing. My babysitter was not there.

Mom called me two hours later. I had prayed a safety prayer.

Mommy’s voice was annoyed and hurried. She was too tired to come today.

Mommy was canceling our visit. She promised to come some other day.

I’m sitting by the window. My coat and hat are ready too.

But Mommy isn’t coming. Tears have soaked my t-shirt through.
