MOTHER

I saw someone’s Mother sitting slumped in her wheelchair today.

She had many aches and wrinkles. Her clothes were in disarray.

I wondered what she was thinking, in that nursing home alone.

Did she recall those scenes of yesteryear when the kids were all at home?

Did she remember her nighttime vigils? Did she recall her times of prayer?

Did she remember those late night feedings as she nourished her infants with care?

Did she smile and chuckle a little when she remembered the trip they had?

Dad said they couldn’t afford it, but Mom planned it and Dad was glad.

Did she remember those Christmas mornings, when money was so tight?

Did she remember scrimping and saving so they could buy their boy a bike?

Did she remember your teenage dating? Did she remember your wedding day?

Did she smile and celebrate lovingly when her first grandbaby came to stay?

What was that Mother thinking as she sat alone today with her smile?

Her wrinkled face was radiant, declaring Mothering was well worthwhile!

Let’s honor Mother at Christmas, at birthdays and Mother’s day too.

Mother deserves a daily blessing because someday her work will be through.

PS. Your Mother might be much younger than our wrinkled Grandma in her chair.

But tell your Mother you love her and show her today that you care!
