PARTY INVITATION

Four-year-old Emily was so excited. The mailman had delivered an invitation.

Emily was invited to her best friend’s birthday party.
“Did Matthew REALLY invite me to his party? Is my name on the front?” Emily had not seen Matthew for a while. The family had moved away. Mommy knew how much Emily missed her little friend.

Emily was too young to read but she memorized the words and hugged the invitation near her heart. All day long she told anyone who would listen that she had an invitation to Matthew’s “birfday.” Everyone admired it and rejoiced with Emily.

Emily thought she could go to the party immediately. Mommy reminded her that she had to wait “three more sleeps”. There was some preparing to do.

Next morning Emily declared, “I’ve had my sleep, can I go to the party today?”

Emily longed for the reunion ahead. She could see her friend once more.

Anticipation was alive and well because of her warm friendship with Matthew.
