WHY DADDY, WHY?
Why are you leaving Daddy?
Why did you pack your bags?
Was it that fight with my Mother?
Or was it because Tommy and I played tag?
Were we bad or noisy or messy?
Was it ‘cause I collected all that string?
I tried to do well in school
Or was it all those loud songs we sing?
I try to listen at school.
My teacher asked me what’s wrong.
Can’t tell her about your fighting.
I wonder just where I belong?
I belong with Mommy at our house.
I belong with my Daddy too.
Please Daddy, don’t go, I’ll miss you.
My life and my heart breaks in two.
Stay home, play ball and go fishing.
Stay here. I’ll clean up my room.
Oh Daddy my dreams and my wishes
Are all swept away like a broom.
Mom says we’ll have to pack now.
We need to move to a smaller house.
Oh Daddy if I had my wishes
Come home, I’ll be still as a mouse.
I won’t run and jump or eat messy.
I’ll clean up the yard in the fall.
I’ll mow the grass in the summer.
Stay home Dad, so we can play ball.
My teacher says a counselor will help us.
The Pastor will pray for us too.
Mommy and all of us love you.
Come home Dad, we’ll try something new.
I wish I was big and could help you.
I’ll grow up as fast as I can.
But Dad, if you move away now
Who will teach me to live like a man?
Mom is great with meals and the dishes.
She cooks and cleans and that stuff.
I thought we had fun with our guy’s things.
Who will teach me to be a sport’s buff?
Guys and sports and some fishing
When you leave you’ll take all that too.
I thought we had fun all together.
Your anger has robbed more than you!
